Heart You: A Piece of Their Hearts

2025

Misc

The goal of this project is to tell the story of families with children in today’s economy. In contemporary American society, 66.5% of families with children 18 and under had both parents actively working (2024 US Bureau of Labor Statistics), and it left the question in some kids’ minds: Where are you, mom/dad? Dual-income families have skyrocketed since women began entering the workforce in the 20th century.

Audience A: The children of working parents

Audience B: Older teens and adults

Medium A:

Medium A is a packaging project that combines an arts and crafts project with a story. The craft project allows for a child and parent to partake in a bonding activity, and the story allows for the parents to talk about such a heavy topic in an entertaining/unique way. The child comes out of this knowing what their parents do for work, as well as a friend who can hold their hand when their parents aren’t home.

Medium B:

Medium B is a book that shares the stories of those who deal with, and are growing into a household with working parents. It features short, personal stories from 4 different age groups. This book is for an audience that is slightly more mature than the one for the packaging project.
